The hormone-producing glands release their contents into bloodstream. This is when hormone production starts. How To

10 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle

How to maintain a healthy lifestyle

We live in a fast paced world, where we don’t get enough sleep and smoke cigarettes. We don’t take proper care of our bodies.

If you are working full time, it can be difficult to keep a healthy diet and exercise regimen. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

You may feel that something is not right with your body. Ask your doctor for his/her opinion about your current situation. If there's nothing abnormal, you might have stress from your job.

Some people believe that their job allows them to exercise regularly, or that they have friends who support them in staying fit. But those people are actually lucky. Those people don’t have any problems. They had everything under control. I wish everyone could be one of them. Unfortunately, most of us don't know how to balance our work life and personal life. Many people have bad habits that lead to illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.

Here are some tips that might help you to improve your lifestyle:

  1. You should get 7 hours of sleep per night minimum and 8 hours maximum. You should be able to sleep in a proper position and avoid caffeine the hour before you go to bed. Caffeine blocks the melatonin hormones making it hard to fall asleep. You should also ensure that your bedroom has a dark, clean environment. Blackout curtains are a must, especially if you work late at nights.
  2. Good nutrition is key to a healthy lifestyle. Sugar products, fried food, processed foods and white breads should be avoided. Lunch should include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. For afternoon snacks, it is recommended to eat foods high in protein and fiber like nuts, seeds and beans, fish, dairy products, and fish. Avoid unhealthy snacks such as chips, candies or cookies, cakes, sodas, and other sweets.
  3. Get enough water. Many people don't get enough. Water is good for us. It helps us lose more calories, keeps the skin soft and youthful, improves digestion, and flushes out toxins. You can lose weight by drinking six glasses of water per day. Checking the color of urine is a good way to gauge your hydration. Yellow indicates dehydration; orange signifies slightly dehydrated; pink signifies normal; red signifies overhydrated; and clear signifies highly-overhydrated.
  4. Exercise - Regular activity can help increase energy and decrease depression. Walking can be a great way to improve your mood. Even though walking looks simple, it requires effort and concentration. Your brain needs to focus on walking while breathing slowly and deeply. A 30 minute walk at a moderate pace for about 100 calories can burn between 100-150 calories. Slowly build up and start slow. Do not forget to stretch after exercising to prevent injuries.
  5. Positive thinking is important for mental well-being. If we are positive, we create a happier environment in our minds. Negative thinking can cause anxiety and drain your energy. You can stay motivated by thinking about what you want to achieve. If you feel overwhelmed by all these new tasks, break down each task into small steps. It is inevitable that you will fail. But don't worry, just keep trying and get up again.
  6. It is important to learn how to say no. We are often so busy, that we don't realize how much time we spend on unimportant tasks. It is important for you to know when to say "No" and how to do it. Not saying "no" is rude. Simply saying "No" does not mean you are rude. You can always find other ways to complete the job later. Set boundaries. Ask someone else to help you out. Delegate the work to someone else.
  7. Take care of your body - Keep track of your diet. Eat healthier foods to boost metabolism and shed extra weight. Avoid eating anything heavy or oily as they can raise cholesterol levels. You should eat three meals per day and two snacks each day. You should consume around 2000 - 2500 calories per day.
  8. Meditate – Meditation is great for stress relief and anxiety. Sitting still with closed eyes allows your mind to relax. This will help you make better decisions. Meditation regularly can make you happier and more calm.
  9. Don't skip breakfast - Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast could cause you to eat too much during lunchtime. It is never too late, so long as you eat your breakfast within one hour of getting up. Breakfast boosts energy and helps to manage hunger.
  10. Clean eating is key to a happy mood. Avoid junk food or any food items that contain preservatives or artificial ingredients. These products make your body acidic and will cause you to crave them. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that improve overall health.
